The Symposium constitutes a unique opportunity to present and discuss original results on Phylogeny, Classification, Evolution, Taxonomy, Diversity, Biogeography or Phylogeography of Neotropical marine, estuarine and freshwater fishes. Abstracts must represent original research and provide clear theoretical foundations, describe the objectives and/or hypotheses under consideration, and employ sampling and analytical designs consistent with the proposal.

SPECIAL SESSIONS

Vari's Legacy

A special session of talks and posters will honor Richard Vari’s legacy by highlighting his outstanding scientific achievements, dedicated mentorship and exceptional service to the Neotropical Ichthyology community. A number of Neotropical Ichthyology (number 3 of volume 17, 2018) will be dedicated to the Symposium papers and will include contributions presented in the Vari's Legacy session. At this point, the available travel funding for participants in Vari’s Legacy has been exhausted.

Fish Collections

A special poster session will be dedicated to Fish Collections holding Neotropical specimens. The aim of this session is to divulge the fish collections and their specimens, but also to discuss. Papers summarizing information of Fish Collections will be published in a special number of the Boletim Sociedade Brasileira de Ictiologia (number 128, 2018, ISSN 1808-1436), with papers on each fish collections authored by its own curator(s).
